One Perfect Day

Hi, I'm Ayu (Yuka), a simple farmer's daughter who grew up in a small village called Sidemen. A village surrounded by beautiful hills and rice fields. I spent almost all of my childhood out in those fields.
Life as a farmer isn't easy. In fact, in our society it was seen as a mark of poverty. But from that life I came to understand something much deeper about what wealth really means. I learned what enough feels like.
I still remember it clearly: my father asking me to help him plant peanuts in the field. My little hands were quick at dropping the seeds in while he made the holes, the dry earth hurting my feet with every step, but I kept walking behind him.
And the thing I looked forward to most was lunch.
My mother would arrive with simple food for us: rice mixed with corn, what we call nasi jagung, with fish and urap vegetables on the side. Simple, but that was the most delicious food in the world to us.
In our little shelter we would eat together, looking out at the beautiful hills and the spread of rice fields, with the rows of mounded earth from our hard work that would soon grow into healthy peanut plants.
Growing up in a farming family, I learned about process: how you nurture a seed until it grows, caring for it with patience and love until harvest. I understand now that behind every result we want, there is a process that must be walked through and enjoyed. And that's where we learn to truly appreciate what we've grown, and feel so much more grateful for it.

Halo aku Ayu (Yuka), anak petani yang sederhana tumbuh di desa kecil bernama Sidemen. Desa yang dikelilingi perbukitan dan sawah yang indah, masa kecilku nyaris kuhabiskan di sawah.
Hidup sebagai petani bukan kehidupan yang mudah, bahkan dalam masyarakat sosial itu adalah sebuah tanda kemiskinan. Namun dari sana aku memahami sesuatu yang jauh lebih dalam tentang makna kekayaan. Aku belajar makna CUKUP!
Aku masih mengingatnya jelas ketika ayahku memintaku membantunya untuk menanam kacang di sawah. Tangan kecilku begitu lincah memasukan biji kacang itu sementara ayahku membuat lubangnya, tanah yang kering membuat langkah kakiku terasa sakit, namun aku terus melangkah di belakang ayahku.
Dan hal paling aku tunggu adalah MAKAN SIANG!
Ibuku akan datang membawa makanan sederhana untuk kami: nasi yang dicampur jagung yang kami sebut nasi jagung dengan lauk ikan dan sayur urap, sederhana namun itulah makanan terenak untuk kami.
Di gubuk sederhana kami makan bersama dengan pemandangan bebukitan yang indah dan hamparan sawah, serta gundukan tanah yang berjejer kerja keras kami yang akan segera tumbuh menjadi pohon kacang yang subur.
Tumbuh dan besar dalam keluarga petani aku belajar tentang proses: bagaimana benih kita rawat hingga tumbuh, merawatnya dengan kesabaran dan cinta hingga panen. Aku sekarang memahami di setiap hasil yang kita inginkan disana ada proses yang harus dilalui dan dinikmati, dan disitulah kita mampu menghargai hasil dan jauh lebih bersyukur terhadapnya.
